Pia Meuthen receives Prins Bernhard Culture Fund Prize North-Brabant

The jury praised her unique and impressive oeuvre. ‘Pia Meuthen has enriched Brabant with stimulating performances of unprecedented eloquence’, according to jury chairperson Esmeralda Huizen. With her company Panama Pictures, Meuthen offers a highly original mix of dance, circus and musical theatre.

A new universe is created for each performance. The performances have their own signature and methods, and are created through improvisation on the basis of thorough research. Dance and movement is intertwined with classical music, electronic beats and vocals. The work takes place on the street, on location, in the theatre and of course at the company’s home base de Verkadefabriek in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Pia Meuthen is boundless in many ways. Her tour schedule extends from Europe to Asia. Her work as a lecturer at Fontys also has an international character. She coaches dancers and circus artists from home and abroad in finding their artistic identity and in making their own work.

Jury chair Huizen: ‘Meuthen uses the language of the body to depict universal themes such as power, transience and family. In this way she tells us more than can be reduced into words’.

The prize, which includes an amount of €10,000, will be awarded by Wim van de Donk, chairman of the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Noord-Brabant on the 25th of October 2018.
